It's a bit different when that decision affects other people. "My body, my choice" would apply to like, abortion. Drug use. Smoking, which is why there's so many laws and regulations now regarding that that ensure you do it far away from other people so you are only hurting yourself and other people who also smoke. It's eventually going to be like a driver's license I think. You don't HAVE to get one, but if you choose not to you'll be severely limited in the things you can actually do. Can't get on a train, hop on a plane, go to the movies or sporting events, etc. It's up to you, but people are quickly being separated into the vaccinated and non-vaccinated. The numbers speak for themselves. 97% of people who require hospitalization for Covid are unvaccinated. It's not that it prevents you from getting it, but it drastically reduces the risk of you being symptomatic if you do get it.

Damn dude I am sorry to hear that. As someone who also experienced Hurricane Ida, my heart goes out to YOU as well. I can't even imagine having something that was a staple of your life just be completely eradicated in the span of a minute or so. Hang in there, man, I hope you had insurance and all and that you were at least able to rebuild from there reasonably well.

I just posted a comment that said basically the same thing. No offense, the army isn't known for pulling the smartest people out of the population to come serve and so it follows that they may actually reject the science behind the vaccine (and how it doesn't just affect them, it affects everyone whether you get it or not) but for all the people who were maybe on the fence about joining but do NOT want to get the vaccine, this will deter them from joining at all. I wouldn't be surprised if they quietly backtrack on this position in a few months when they realize how it's going to affect recruitment.

@andaltargren9015 Yeah well I use the word "army" loosely, I understand it's it's own thing but I meant I guess to say the military in general. Servicemembers.

@SouljaMan It's considered a civil right for women, though. The right to choose. That's their position on it, not mine necessarily. At any rate, unless you knocked up a complete and total hooker the man usually does have SOME say in what happens to the baby. We could argue semantics all day long, but abortion is 100% in the realm of women's rights at least in their minds.

I'm vaccinated and I encourage everyone to get vaccinated as well, but this is probably going to backfire on the army. Think about it, only 1% of the American population joins the armed forces anyway and I can just about guarantee the majority of them are likely going to be the same sorts of people from the same sorts of families as this "Don't tread on me" bullshit, where they're making it a civil rights issue almost as far as their decision not to get vaccinated. It's insane. But yeah if they were having problems recruiting before, this is probably not going to help.

@AstroAvenger Yeah but none are as politicized as this one is. Besides, vaccines aren't unique to the military. You're supposed to get several vaccines in the first few years of your life to prevent such things as polio, etc. I dunno I think a lot of people don't like this one because they just don't like being told what to do all the way up to they do not trust the government, even though the government didn't create the vaccines, private companies did. By order of the government I guess, but they were made by private companies.
