The good news for this guy is he has finally admitted it, not just to Theo but also himself, that he isn't happy with the way his life is going and he has identified that drinking isn't making it any better. In fact it is making it worse. You have to get to that point that you can't stand it anymore then you will finally be ready to quit. Quitting because someone else tells you to when you aren't ready, it never works. YOU have to want it.
