When Tropic Thunder came out actually it was around the beginning of outrage culture in earnest. I couldn't believe they got away with it at the time. But to be honest I sincerely doubt that movie could be made today without mass boycotts among other things. Just shows you how far we've fallen in the span of about a decade.

@gwenwalravens8030 Nobody goes to the movies anymore, anyway. Not like they did when Tropic Thunder came out anyway. The problem is anything deemed offensive isn't going through the pipeline to begin with nowadays. Major studios have decided this apparently, that's why you see a lot of "safe" stuff like that crap [Ghostbusters female version] that comes out and it bombs whereas they haven't been willing to do anything truly risky (unless you count an R-rated comic book movie like Deadpool being risky) for years now. Hollywood is stuck in a perpetual state of reboots it seems. Reboots on reboots on reboots. I dunno if we'll ever get back to that golden age of cinema. Seems like television has supplanted it at this point.

@gwenwalravens8030 When it comes to Marvel movies and Star Wars movies I think franchise fatigue is starting to set in. When you have a movie that gets a budget as large as Ghostbusters (the reboot) it is harder for the film to recoup enough money to be considered a success. I don't think they lost money, they just didn't make enough to consider it a success. But as franchise fatigue with these massive movie business models again as depicted by Marvel and Disney (and also the demographics of the audience and how people consume media today -- again, with streaming services more and more making theaters and movies, by extension, obsolete). You're not wrong, most of the stuff especially the stuff that's part of this reboot culture is uninspired garbage, but there's other reasons why the movie industry is in a state of crisis financially speaking and some of those things can't even be blamed on the product itself. Movie theater attendance gets worse and worse every single year.
