@zuboy4272 if a man marries any woman without even informing his wife, then that could break the trust of his wife and she will get extremely disappointed so definitely not informing wives and getting married is NOT equality. As Allah SWT said "the best of you are those who are best to their wives" so disappointing wives is punishable in islam. And as for Muhammad pbuh, his case is mentioned as an exception in many hadiths, he married more woman to expand islam as well as help the widows and divorcees not for his selfish desires (all his wives were widows and divorced except aisha ra, which is a whole different story) and polygamy is NOT considered as a sunnah islamically, coz if it was then 13 wives shdve been allowed but only 4 wives are. One of the very main condition in polygamy is the husband shd be able to afford a big house or separate houses as well as be financially very stable also a man can marry only an orphan or oppressed lady. Biologically a woman has more desires than men due to multiple hormones, thats why men's sexual desires are not an justified reason for polygamy as islam follows science. I have researched a lot abt this topic and have come to know that polygamy was allowed only for protection of certain woman not for desires. And I'm also a pre med student so that woman's desire thing i told is 100% true. Its just that in many countries women are so restricted and men are left like open bulls therefore they cheat. When in western countries, women cheat more than men due to desires. Polygamy wasn't allowed to prevent cheating(cheating or zina is already a sin in islam) but allowed to help single mothers, orphans and socially unacceptable women like rape victims etc. Since islam considers all societal problems too. Also the woman and her family can specifically mention in the marriage contract if they r against polygamy, and after that the man has no right to marry more woman(thats something that my family does)

Imbesat originally polygamy was allowed to protect widows and orphans....not for men to fulfil their desires. When women r supposed to be satisfied with one man then why do men need more women? Also i dont think in this century widows and orphans r a big problem, if u have money then better support those orphan hungry children rather than being disloyal to ur wife.

@useless3596 the reason why polygamy is not common becoz women have self respect and millions of muslim girls will never share their husbands and millions of husbands genuinely love their wives so much that they dont need more women. If a man cheats he needs to be divorced not given permission to marry more and officially cheat on his wife. Love is a commitment. Less than 1% polygamy exists in todays world and even lesser polygamies r successful. Bcoz ussually the 1st wife leaves, children suffer due to lack of proper attention, the man faces financial problems, co wives get jealous and sometimes wives even suicide. I have seen cases like that. Plus according to latest sensus men r 0.2% more than women in population, if more ppl start practicing polygamy...it could really mess up the ratio.

Polygamy is only encouraged by the Quran where it concerns "oppressed or the orphans among women" (4:3), if justice can be done by marrying more than one. And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one.} (Chapter 4, verse 3) This verse clearly says that only marrying one women is encouraged in islam and polygamy is allowed only in certain circumstances.

@humzaalam4823 there is already exploding population in this world. There isnt any lack of kids in this world. But there is sure lack of well educated ppl who can develop the world. And a women's brain has many capabilities for it, so instead of sitting at home, producing babies and wasting ur brain, those women could get educated, earn, become independent and also donate as much as they could. Not only they would help the world but they would also get many rewards from Allah for helping the poor. And thats wat most muslim girls prefer nowadays.

Bcoz Allah has not allowed polygamy for a man's sexual desires. It was only allowed to protect oppressed women. Coz islam considers all societal issues as well, and in many parts of the world these women are still harassed. But then she literally married a man who is already married with kids, who is not even financially stable and not even capable of being loyal (filled with greed of marrying more and never be satisfied) and then finally ended up selling perfume prolly coz the money wasnt enough to support her "beloved" husband's multiple family and kids. She didnt even use her masters degree and worked as a reputed engineer(she could have helped 1000s with her own money), to the world she is just a second wife of a crazy muslim man, no identity of her own. If she wanted to work from home and marry a man like this...why did she even do masters and waste her parents money? The entire situation is so crazy that ppl r forced to critcise. And i personally dont think a women with PhD level ability will make such a dumb choice on her own without being forced.

Our prophet said "the best of those who are best to their wives" polygamy was allowed only to protect certain women who are oppressed by the society not for a man's desires. I am not a toxic feminist, i simply believe in equality, if someone says women r superior to men i would surely disagree. Bcoz both r equal. Historically, women never got the chance to prove themselves, thats why world was male dominated, coz women were always considered inferior, and women themselves believed that they were inferior. But now due to education and awareness, many ppl r tired of this system, and want their ryts. Prophet's case was a pure exception, he married widows and divorcees from different tribes who were harassed during those times, inorder to protect them and spread islam. He didnt marry for any of his sexual desires since he had kids only with his first wives and not any other wives, dont forget there were no contraceptives during those times and Prophet was quite fertile. He married that 6 yr old girl beckz of her rebellious and curious nature, he married her, treated her like a kid and taught her abt islam, after the death of the prophet aisha ra became a powerful lady who guided many muslims and preached even after the death of the prophet. Most of prophet's wives were older to him, he married a youger girl so that she could spread proper information even after his death since his kids have died. Polygamy is not encouraged in islam, its simply allowed that too with many many conditions but some disgusting men dont read those conditions and simply marry any women they like, for that u need to blame those men and their CULTURE not the entire religion.

It often misleads ppl. I could prove this wrong with just one statement...in this website the person who wrote the article mentions that female population is more than men so its not practical to restrict men to only one wife. Yes female population was more in 1950 but currently according to 2020 world population senses male population is approx 2 percent more than women.

See u and me may be brought up in an open society...but not all woman r lucky enough, in so many countries these oppressed women r considered burdern by their own parents and thrown out of their homes and left to die on streets along with their kids. Islam is a religion that considers all social issues and problems and advices a muslim man to marry these women and take up all her responsibilities(including kids) if they r financially stable and if the first wife allows. Polygamy is just an exception and its not obligatory or encouraged, its only recommended in certain situations. I am a girl myself who lives in saudi arabia and have read quran with translation. So i do have enough information abt this topic.

Our religion doesnt permit to beat woman, woman and men both r asked to dress modestly in islam, and covering hair is completely the woman's choice and she cant be forced to do so. Ppl only check woman's clothing, when infact there r variety of conditions on a man's clothing too in islam. Polygamy is simply allowed in our religion, not compulsory or encouraged. And as i said its allowed only to protect certain woman. @ankitadas767 as an indian u must agree that even among muslims polygamy is very rare and many muslim cultures and families definitely do not accept polygamy at all. In earlier times, men used to go to wars and die and widow women and orphans used to be severely harassed, thats why islam allowed already married men to marry these women and take up their responsibilities, thats where the idea originates from....even now muslim men can marry only oppressed women and orphans, provided their first wife is ok with it as well as they r financially very stable, there r many other conditions too. But narcissistic men ignore those and marry any random beautiful woman.

@nasserashraf360 Polygamy is only encouraged by the Quran where it concerns "oppressed or the orphans among women" (4:3), if justice can be done by marrying more than one. Islam has allowed polygamy only for the reason of protecting oppressed women who r not accepted by many societies. I already said polygamies are extremely disadvantageous in today's world. I have seen many women suicide coz of this. It breaks family, kids tend to have grudges, man also faces problems jugling bw families and paying for many wives and children, all for wat? Thats why islam encourages monogamy more. It is clearly stated in quran that " if justice cant be done it is forbidden for a man to many 4 wives" therefore monogamy is considered superior to polygamy.

And a man cant even tolerate 1% of that pain, 90% men would die if they ever gave birth. But due to artificial technology even men would be capable of giving birth in the future. So there is ur answer along with a free 8th grade biology lesson. A woman's organs r made so strong so that she could handle pregnancy, so it isnt unfair. But yes breaking ur wife's trust by bringing a 2nd wife is definitely unfair. Bcoz a woman's body isn't made for adjustment.

Prophet's case was a pure exception, he married widows and divorcees from different tribes who were harassed during those times, inorder to protect them and spread islam. He didnt marry for any of his sexual desires since he had kids only with his first wives and not any other wives, dont forget there were no contraceptives during those times and Prophet was quite fertile. He married that 6 yr old girl beckz of her rebellious and curious nature, he married her, treated her like a kid and taught her abt islam, after the death of the prophet aisha ra became a powerful lady who guided many muslims and preached even after the death of the prophet. Most of prophet's wives were older to him, he married a youger girl so that she could spread proper information even after his death since his kids have died. Polygamy is not encouraged in islam, its simply allowed that too with many many conditions but some disgusting men dont read those conditions and simply marry any women they like, for that u need to blame those men and their CULTURE not the entire religion.

@mariyashandle i do agree with u but marriage isnt just abt kids. Nowadays many ppl "plan a child" well....until then most use contraceptives which r now available at a very cheap cost. If there is no contraceptive, the women will know and most probably be conscious abt it. I personally dont think any women is going to continuously sleep with all her "husbands" with no protection. So this doesn't really make a lot of sense in the 21st century. Contraceptives are available everywhere at a rate everyone can afford. Also in my opinion polygamy shdnt be practiced in the first place. Coz there r millions of disadvantages and only some advantages that too only for the man. I dont think there is any advantage for the women coz she is the one compromising and adjusting. Even islam allows polygamy only in certain circumstances with many conditions. Initially only one marriage is encouraged in islam.

Husband wont be considered responsible for his wife's actions, it is no where mentioned in the quran. It is mentioned that mother will be partially held responsible for the actions of her children. And no the first option is to talk and guide the wife islamically if she is wrong and last option is to raise voice at her. Spanking is no option. Prophet pbuh never ever hit any of his wives and he is considered ideal for all men. If ur wife is severely wrong, she will be punished accordingly by Allah. Guiding ur wife/husband is ur duty but if they dont listen, then its Allah's duty to punish them, not urs

Islam has many limitations for polygamy and many conditions, which if not fulfilled polygamy becomes haram. Its not encouraged in our religion at all.
