  1. The reward for working the hardest sadly often seems to be MORE work: getting stuck at a certain level, for less money, more responsibilities, and no promotion. Why promote you when you're willing to be a slave for peanuts? Seen this FAR too many times, to the ultimate detriment of a company, and employee. People aren't machines!

  3. GREAT MENTORS ARE PRICELESS. If you look at my resume over the long term, it may look like I career hopped. I simply sought a company/mgmt as invested in me as I was in them. I stayed longest in much underpaid positions because of superior mgmt!
