Great perspective. I was in the Shanghai lockdown and everything this dude says is spot on, only tiny critique I'd say about is when he said the rich in SH suffered the most - I'd say the poor suffered the most because the rich areas got taken care of much more the poor areas. They went for so long without food and were treated the worst. The only difference is the rich have means to leave... and he's right - all of my affluent Chinese friends were psychologically scarred from that event (even the super pro-gov. ones) and have left or are planning to leave soon. The poor simply don't have the means to leave if they did I think many would also.

GZERO Media does not get the views and attention it deserves. Love watching Bremmer and everybody else on here

This guy lost all credibility with me when he said "Not worse than ours" about Chinese demographics
14
I actually never thought of that. Counter to the whole Mearsheimer and "Realist" argument - if Putin's whole reason for going after Ukraine was feeling threatened by Ukraine becoming a part of NATO - why is he not showing any willingness to back off when there is clearly zero chance of Ukraine becoming a part of NATO? Because that was never the motivation in the first place, he simply wants Ukraine.

I think Biden's strong support was politics. He calculated that he'd gain more from supporting Israel from older democrats and independents who vote at higher rates, and lose some support with younger voters who vote at lower rates. However I think he miscalculated the backlash that has grown stronger overtime.
10
I didn't get "don't respond to the attacks" at all from his message.
8
Well, they do... with 9 dash line, Taiwan, territory between them and India, small islands in East China Sea, etc
7
Stop listening to Candice Owens, Tim Pool, and Tucker Carlson
6
"Someone doesn't agree with me? MUST be Teh d33p stat' He gave a fair analysis and even said the fact checkers checked Trump more and he feels that showed some bias. You gotta stop deflecting everything that conflicts with your view... a ton of people thought Trump lost that, its not crazy to think so
6
Well, Israel is supposed to be ethically and morally better than a terrorist group, right? Especially given the balance of power. That's probably why
5
aka "Ian says something I don't like and/or disagree with, and therefore he is part of the establishment." stop it...
5
You have bought the propaganda to distrust the system
4
There is nuance to what he's saying, and I think his analysis is valid
4
I think if some people hear anything that isn't 100% in support of Israel - they switch off and shut off their ears. Ian's points are valid and although may be hard to hear, its worth listening to and considering
4
For this election specifically - Biden choosing to run again and not letting a proper primary happen after the mid-terms, allowing for a stronger candidate to emerge (probably not Harris) was the main issue. More broadly speaking - Democrats choosing to use a lot of oxygen to focus on niche social issues rather than economic issues. Get the over-paid, big money, rainbow-haired consultants out of the Dem establishment and get back to listening to grassroots issues. Healthcare, education, workers protections and wages, etc

Glad to see GZERO getting more subscribers and more views

@LloydBraun9000 No, I'm just too tired to explain this to you. Requiring ID can disproportionately affect certain groups, such as low-income individuals, who may face more challenges obtaining valid identification...ie - their ID expired a month ago but they work 2 jobs and have a family, so haven't had time to renew it. Obtaining an ID can also be costly or logistically difficult for some, especially in rural areas with limited access to DMV offices. About fraud - Evidence suggests that in-person voter fraud (Despite what the Republican party will tell you) is extremely rare, so the requirement may not significantly reduce fraud. To summ it up - we have a problem in the US of people voting too little, not voting too much or faking votes. With little evidence to suggest people are voting fraudulently - you do more harm than good by requiring ID
3
@LloydBraun9000 But then I explained it lol
3
@LloydBraun9000 Canned answers? They're legitimate
3
@oliverenterprises3526 What on earth are you talking about
3
No... he's not saying Hamas was working for Israel. Netanyahu doesn't want a two state solution so the existence of Hamas actually helped him reach that goal because he can say "look, we want a deal but the Palestinian authorities don't control even half of the people and Hamas is a terrorist organization! We cant' deal with them.".
3
Might sound strange but it's also important to note that Joe Rogan and Elon Musk also said they'd vote for Desantis. They're only two guys but highly influential in the right wing/anti establishment crowd. If they continue to voice support for De Santis (and others join in) that could be a negative for Trump and boost his main rival
3
I live in China and went the Shanghai lockdowns, and found your interview both interesting and accurate. Thank you.
3
Argue his points
3
Well thats what I'm saying. Seeing as how they've been considering the US as an adversary for years (if you saw their domestic propaganda for the last 10 years then you know what I'm talking about) - I don't see why any nation would help a supposed adversary or even competitor. US ain't breakin any laws or rules by using it's own tech and relationships with allies built up through decades of diplomacy.

@kshen7485 Lol bro you literally just copied and pasted THE SAME MESSAGE you did to me a day ago! You're for sure either a bot or a WuMao!
2
@amirhandzel8602 I happen to agree with it. They have made some mistakes in their efforts to achieve their goals
2
This guy is like Trump though it seems... he's got 9 lives. Wasn't he already found guilty of bribery and corruption? Somehow, he is back in the drivers seat
2
Thank you for the podcast Ian. I feel like engagement for these podcast episodes could be greater if we had video of the people talking along with the audio. I know this isn't always possible, but just some feedback
2
@John-hg3zd Thats funny because thats exactly my advice to you
2
How much will it cost if we do nothing though. The amount of cost to mitigate the damage will do much more harm in the long run
2
@briandbeaudin9166 I've heard that argument and my good buddy subscribes to it, but I'm just not with it. I'm more worried about Trump's erratic and impulsive nature....not to mention extreme narcissism and disregard for institutions. DeSantis is by no means "good", but I personally find him less dangerous than Trump...in regards to the future of America....Especially internationally
2
Yes. Do not mistake for a place like China where people don't have a choice. People in Japan could choose another party if they wanted to, they simply don't. Its similar to the state of California in the US where democrats have dominated for a long time because the voters there choose them because they want to, not because they don't have a choice.

Didn't this get uploaded yesterday?

The Chinese government will be very careful about what they say about Abe pubicly (they'll say nothing), and revel in the hate they have festered domestically about Abe and Japan as a nation. It's disgusting what is being said (allowed to be said) in domestic Chinese social media

Bill Bishop is the man. Also check out Michael Pettis for economics on China
1
@fvalemus5377 Lol nope. Not at all...

@MRTY323 I would say he's not right. China has the fastest aging population in human history and their birthrates are insanely low. In 10 years they will have lost something like 70 million working age population and gaining 110 million in dependants (mostly seniors)... that's like losing a France worth of working age people and gaining a Japan worth of old people. and minorities are just as much part of the population as whites... so are you discounting them? America does not = white people. It's a rainbow And the US allowing immigrants in is a feature, not a "pad". It's one of the biggest strengths of the US historically and now, with birthrates falling all over the world - most notably in China.

@xfactor6099 Lol okay

Beijing could stop the flow of those precursors in an instant with a snap of a finger... lets see what happens. I think it'll be something at the margin at best, unless the US is willing to concede something significant.... even then I think it'll be temporary at best. It's my opinion that the sell of precursors is justified as a weird revenge from the opium wars (despite the US not being the one who sold it) and also an aspect of a war without restrictions. What better way to win a war without firing a bullet than to kill your enemy slowly from the inside with drugs (as they perceive "The West" did to them long ago.).
1
I would say the issue is structural/political. The Fed controls monetary policy and Congress would be in charge of taxes. The fed can only use the tool it has for this problem - raising interest rates. Congress would have to act to use it's tools of creating legislation to raise taxes on the rich... but thats politically unpopular for them, so they ain't gonna do that. It shouldn't be like that, but unfortunately thats how it is. Congress's real constituents are the rich and mega-corporations. And if they were to raise taxes on the rich - you'd see massive retaliation by super-pacs and media campaigns by right wing-media. We need to end the corruption of money in politics so our politicians serve the masses and not the rich few...so Congress can actually make decisions in our best interest

Israel had US support initially, but Bibi has gone too far and the civillian cost is too great. At worst its genocide and at best its ethnic cleansing
1
I think Ian knows a hell of a lot about a wide range of topics. Don't come here and be an A-hole...
1
@kshen7485 You're a typical CCP exceptionalist
1
@kshen7485 Lol 我住在中国 smart guy. I'm speaking from experience....

Tough part is that Amazon in the US refuses to allow people to see where their stuff is sources from and they lobby hard to prevent them from being forced to. They do it in the EU, but not in US
1
"It's not like Americans don't know what Trump did" - sadly, a lot of Americans have had history re-written over the last 4 years by media telling them that 1. Jan 6 was not his fault, 2. It was Antifa/FBI that started or participated in the insurrection, 3. That it wasn't an insurrection, etc etc...
1
Wall street was stupid. I remember the same arguments in 2018 when he first put tariffs on... people said he wouldn't do it, was just bargaining, would take them off.... those tariffs stayed on and "deals" never happened.. I literally saw the same talk this time around... People have insanely short memories
1
The people in Japan could choose another party if they wanted to. They simply don't...don't misunderstand what he is saying. Its similar to the State of California in the US where democrats dominate because people vote and willfully choose them over the other party, not because they have to. Google political parties in Japan, there are many...and the voters could vote any of them into power if they wish.
1
@Tyler-vw9bh I mean we were as safe as with other President's, perhaps minus Bush. I don't see anything Trump did to change that. I compare him to Trump in the sense that they are both nationalistic/populous type right wing guys who seem to escape trouble at every turn
