This is also part of the steps to be taken to insulate themselves from sanctions on a future Taiwan invasion (maybe in 10 years or so). China is a major food and energy importer, so they need to have protection against financial sanctions for when the time comes.

They are trying to insulate themselves against a future invasion of Taiwan. So in that regard, you are correct. China is a major importer of food and energy. If they are sanctioned when they invade Taiwan, it'll be extremely crippling to their economy. Securing energy is one of the steps/goals to insulate themselves

Best believe part of the deal of building those schools is that they will need to teach favorable things about the CCP
14
@eilois Right but you fail to mention why. Taiwan used to be recognized by over 20 countries, but China has using various economic and coercive means to widle that down to 13. They even used to be in the UN It's not like these countries just, by themselves, woke up one day and decided that Taiwan wasn't a country. China bought, pressured, or coerced them to do it. If you tell China no, especially on Taiwan, they will retaliate. Know this, in the hearts of most people, it is believed Taiwan is it's own country. It's just not something most dare to say on the world stage

@ryannathaniel9296 If they were bigger, I think they probably would declare independence. However, they're too small and the backlash from the CCP would be absolutely insane and start a major conflict. Nothing they can do about their size
3
@Sinister_Ball Yeah that really worked out with China trading in the WTO China right? (sarcasm)
2
@signumxmagnum I think Taiwan should have it's own seat at the table, as Taiwan. The PRC will not allow this though
2
@xucharlie628 If they were bigger, I think they would declare independence. However China would retaliate so ferociously that it'd be too damaging for a country of that size
2
@signumxmagnum I personally don't think Taiwan is China's territory. Those are bad examples because all the places you mentioned: Are governed by the US, recognize the US constitution as their own, use US currency, their residents are US citizens and use US passports, and support being a part of the US. The same cannot be said about Taiwan
2
@spider6660 Also kind of funny when China is the one launching missiles and flying jets around Taiwan all because an old lady went there
2
@pyrophobia133 Yeah, I can't agree. If by "we" you mean the US. Check Michael Pettis, he advises the Chinese government and teaches at Peking University in Beijing. He outlines what China needs to do to continue to grow and not stagnate
1
@eiyonlee3114 Lol okay...
1
@eilois I think most would consider it an invasion, as most countries unofficially believe that Taiwan is it's own country
1
@bob doe Taiwan is not officially a part of China by the world. Most are officially ambiguous out of fear of retaliation by China. I personally subscribe to the belief that it's not a part of China. Their constitution officially calls themselves as a part of "China" but does not recognize the CCP as their ruler Unofficially - Taiwan see's itself as Taiwan, and Mainland as China. Many Taiwanese don't identify as "Chinese" anymore and identify with "Taiwanese". Ethnically Chinese but of a different nationality

@johneylongjam2012 I'm aware of how trade works. I don't think things are free
1
@oldmanjesus9855 20 is not nothing... even with 13, it shows there is a dispute. I would argue that it would be more, however - people are afraid of retaliation from China.
1
@shutup51916 13 countries do. Used to be 20 but the CCP poached them off...and are actively working to poach more. A lot of these countries are scared of China, because China has shown a willingness to retaliate economically even over small issues. It's not out of a shared belief that people don't recognize Taiwan - it's out of fear of China
1
@signumxmagnum Yep I agree
1
@spider6660 I never mentioned anything about war. Not sure why you think that is my mentality
1
@spider6660 I know you are not mentioning "human rights" when we are talking about China, right? The worst offender of human rights And yeah, it is aid. Something China knows nothing about... they are one of the least charitable countries in the world
1
BLACK MAMBA Well all the CCP shows it's population is fake news aka State Propaganda. So do not tell me about "fake news" when we are talking about a country who only allows it's people to see propaganda and nothing else. The CCP has never governed Taiwan. They never finished the job of the communist revolution and failed to take it after 70 years. fact
1
@shutup51916 Because it's not it's territory, so it's not "internal affairs" Btw - China interfere's in a ton of peoples internal affairs. You just don't hear about it because it's not shown in Chinese media
1
@daelundrumavidem8033 Yeah, I don't care if you think it's sexist and ageist lol. I'll say what I want.... btw thats what the Chinese media called her. Are you calling the Chinese media sexist and ageist?? How dare you
1
@swaggerpinto9777 India and US ain't taking China's side right now on anything. It's simply China would go absolutely crazy if anybody admits Taiwan is it's own country. Look at how they reacted when Pelosi just went to visit... China rules by fear. It rules it's people by fear, and it projects itself onto the world with fear. I am well aware of the history. CCP has never governed Taiwan, and has waited over 70 years to try to claim it. The ship has sailed... they have their own government, currency, passport, diplomats, trade ties, etc etc etc... I side with the people of Taiwan. They don't want to be forced to be ruled by a Dictator/Emperor. They want to decide their own fate
1
@tllgestalt1942 They actually don't want both. They want to be left alone, and not forced to be ruled by a Dictator/Emperor. They would claim independence but China is holding a gun to their head - almost literally
1
@The_Art_of_AI_888 Do not talk to me about manipulation and propaganda when talking about the Chinese government. The government that has shown propaganda for 50 years to it's population and does not let them view any other news sources. Newsflash: Much of the world unofficially feels that Taiwan is it's own country. They only officially say they believe in the "One China Policy" because China will throw a tantrum and launch of a bunch of missiles (Pelosi) or attack them economically (Lithuania).

@shutup51916 Lol okay so the western media does the brainwashing? Not the Chinese State Propaganda that is played constantly in mainland? The same system that is fully controlled by the government and does not allow their people to watch any other news sources? Yet I am the one brainwashed by Western Media ? The way you talk, you are parroting the exact same nonsense from the Chinese propaganda system. If anybody here is brainwashed, it is you, not I. Do yourself a favor and turn off The Global Times. And right, blame the US for all of the problems. So what is the excuse for Asian Media that is also critical of China? Media from Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan - they are all controlled by the US somehow too right? China cannot get along with anybody in the west, any of it's neighbors in the east. Is it really the US's fault that China can't get along with any major economy? Or maybe, just maybe...is it something China is doing that is ruining all it's major relationships in the past 10 years
