Love Pettis. He has quite a few interviews here on youtube

@Anonymint-vj7bt I don't think he's a "renowned China expert". He's just an economist who has extensive knowledge of about their economic model. He doesn't quite say that.... he said the amount of investment that was in real estate cannot simply be shifted over to technology because it's so large that the technology sector couldn't absorb it all productively. Especially since technology isn't hurting for capital.

China has surpassed as a total of debt to GPD %. I think you don't understand math

He should get way more attention

demographics are more of a medium and especially longterm problem. Debt is a near-term problem.... but regardless, they have a near term problem (debt), medium + longterm problem (demographics). It doesn't bode well for the Chinese economy

Lol so tell me who you vote for in this "democracy" ?

@gliu1431 Oh stop it.. just type it again. There is no conspiracy against you. This isn't China, you can type what you want as long as it doesn't violate googles terms of service.

@gliu1431 Snowden leaked confidential government information - this is illegal. Assange, like snowden, leaked a ton of confidential info. Do not compare this to China, where you cannot even fully express yourself on social medial or wechat. You can even get in trouble for expressing yourself on foreign social media if you out of the country. Stop it

@Anonymint-vj7bt Hmm I'm not sure if you know this, but thats exactly what Pettis thinks will happen. He thinks China will go through a long period of stagnation like Japan. Yes there is a saying in Chinese that translates to "eat bitter", and the Chinese are very good at this... but I would not agree that means nothing bad would happen. Look at the Covid protests that caused an abrupt ripping off the bandaid of zero covid

@Anonymint-vj7bt Its quite a bit different but I don't have the energy to type out my explanation, so I'll leave it at that
