@TD1237 A logical response is others putting tariffs on their dumping practices. This is tit for tat since foreign cars dumping in the Chinese market is not a thing. Btw China already tariffs imported cars, the same thing they are angry about others for doing to them. So, no

Spoiler: China already tariffs imported cars... the same thing they are mad about others doing to them. Hence why so many actually build inside the country, through joint-ventures. They decreased the import tax from 25% to 15% in 2018. This is simply putting them back to the 2018 levels

@dfv671 You mean how it always was before 2018? This is actually just a 10% hike from the current 15% tariff and a return to the pre-2018 levels. This is not a major deal and just makes for good bloomberg headlines

You don't think they expected this already? Please...its just people here on youtube that are actually surprised. Everybody knows China does tit for tat.. Of course they knew and still acted accordingly

@amunra5330 That is factually not true. The general tariff rate on imported vehicles were reduced from 25% to 15% in 2018. On top of the general tariff, there are often additional charges like consumption taxes and VAT (Value Added Tax), which can significantly increase the total cost of imported vehicles. Going back to 25% is simply going back to how it was before 6 years ago. Big whoopty doo

@wongcma Nope

@mytenshi The high tariff rate is not meant to match China's tariffs, they are a counter to the massive subsidies given to China's EV's that allow them to artificially sell for cheaper prices. Foreign auto-makers, even within China (except Tesla), do not get those subsidies. Don't give subsidies, dump onto foreign markets - and you won't get tariffs. Countries cannot allow their industries to get hollowed out the same way China did to Solar panels, steel, and many electronics.

@MMLL369 EU is making their own moves regardless of US. They have an independent investigation wrapping up that is likely to discover the massive subsidies everyone already knows about

@MMLL369 Stop with your conspiracy theory nonsense. Yes, it looks like its making its own decisions...stop reading your Chinese propaganda that paints EU and other countries as puppets. Its all nonsense

This is not true.. China exports to the outside than imports, thus is more exposed to trade tensions. Spoiler: China already tariffs imported cars, the same thing they are angry about others doing to them

@jameschalkwig787 If its such a benefit to China - why do they not want tariffs? Why didn't they always just develop everything domestically instead of trading?
1
@vlhc4642 Lol okay. Then they got nothing to be angry about or complain about - right? You can't both be strong and weak at the same time
1
@vlhc4642 because America doesn't overproduce junk?
