  2. Well this is Dutch equipment, not US. And no - this is not considered a backdoor as the software needs constant updates and communication with ASML for it to be functional. This has always been known by every party involved and is the way of such sophisticated equipment

  4. This is not new or a secret. The machines need heaps of constant tweaks and updates through software. Not only that - the repairs and machine pieces need to come from ASML, so those machines don't work without their approval. This is just news media trying to get clicks from those who don't know this
