Apparently problems don't exist if you just cover your eyes

Shutting down the nuclear plants was just silly...especially in a place that isn't that sunny or particularly windy

Communists/authoritarians will never give up power willingly
64
@tasreasfatemsa8266 Democracies are by no means perfect but they seem to be a much better alternative to strongman authoritarianism.
54
This man is right. I live in a very wealthy part of China and even here people are hurting financially and youth struggling to find jobs. If there is 5% growth - nobody knows where it is going because its not felt even in an area like mine that typically has high economic growth.
52
I think it's a big a problem in Chinese society that there is apathy towards those who are not close friends and family, instead of empathy towards their fellow man. Not everybody, but it's a big problem
29
Economist Michael Pettis said this would happen. As China shifts its investment from real estate into manufacturing in a desperate attempt to keep its economic model going - countries are going to be unwilling to absorb additional exports from China at the cost of their own industries, which have already been hollowed out from China's subsidies
27
You need to take a look in the mirror and ask yourself what China has done to make this situation worse. I think the US has made some mistakes here, but if you only see the US as making mistakes in their actions, you are bias and don't realize it. It takes two to tango

Women have more choice yet men still want to hold onto the traditional way of women doing everything - cooking, cleaning, taking care of children... and now + working. The world changed fast but the expectations of men are slow to change...especially in a traditional and patriarchal society like China. This leads to more women saying "no thanks".

@smoothoperator2008s Lol I love how people quote China GDP growth as if it's the same as other countries. Their GDP is a manufactured input, not an output of actual economic activity like other transparent countries. For every RMB of GDP they had to spend 7 rmb of debt, with that number growing exponentially. Even worse - it's largely spent in unproductive assets that just boost numbers on paper but do little to actual produce any value for the function of the economy. and their consumption is 7%? I go balls deep into the economics and have not seen that from any credible source. Their problem is literally low consumption and high macro debt. You're off dude
19
US wars? Russia invaded Ukraine, in Europe. US has given an immense amount of help at Europe's request... ok Chinese bot
16
I agree with the EU. Hamas is bad and wrong but Israel has gone too far in disregarding and in some cases punishing Palestinian civilians
15
@tasreasfatemsa8266 In 2020 Li Keqiang said over 600 million in China live on 140$ a month. So its not the same, and the total amount of poor are relevant.
9
@Kim It's definitely becoming less attractive for a lot of foreign workers. I do live in China, but I do it for my own personal reasons.. not because it's my best option financially or living standards. Almost half of my foreign friends have left though...
9
I would disagree with this woman. Unfortunately, the people blame the local government for the bank issue... and not the central government. They are unaware of how the policies of the central government have actually led to this issue on the local level.
8
@chinavirus841 I'd say nobody is winning, and considering that everybody thought they'd be done in 2 weeks - I'd say they're doing quite well for themselves.
7
Way more than 80 million. There are 100 million in Guangzhou alone... if you factor in all of the Cantonese speakers in the entire world? Many many millions more. I know most of the big Chinese populations in places like Monterey Park and Alhambra, CA - alone are Cantonese speakers.
7
@TienyeeTien Lol I am. 我在中国已经住了六年半了
7
BBC is legit
6
Id say deceptive
6
@zacksmith5963 You do realize that China's debt to GDP ratio is greater than the US right? You really should not be mentioning debt when trying to compare China to the US
6
@williamkinkade2538 I haven't seen any Han prejudice in this thread...knock it off.
6
@wanglei5500 US and its allies do not want their technology to be used to build up a military they may have to fight. If China can get around it, that is their right and all the more power to them.
5
@odysliu9102 I live in China and the original poster is correct, and you likely know it as well. These kind of open discussions are not allowed to be on Chinese TV or on social media. The only thing allowed is praise of the party or things that are bad against the West, especially US
5
@ Well you can ask the gentleman in the video about that. Don't take my word for it - all I can do is offer my personal experience. But I do have friends all over and somehow they are all experiencing the same. Its common knowledge inside China that jobs are hard to find and things are much slower... I don't know what to tell you. If you want more concrete data - watch the video again or just search it here on google or youtube. There is tons of data to support what I'm saying.
5
Well the US actually invented the semi-conductor, and the internet, and GPS. What has China invented recently? US stopped producing semiconductors willingly, by outsourcing them to Taiwan and other countries. However they do design all of the software for advanced semi-conductors though... like the ones Taiwan makes. China doesn't have to worry though, because their chips are the things that go into kids toys, and scooters, remote controls, etc.. so it they don't need the US software

I'd say the problem is Europe doesn't agree or like China's behavior, but they're not economically strong enough to really do much about it. I think they would like the luxury of taking a stronger stance against China like the US, but they're just not able to. Hence the EU Pres stating how they really feel yet the leaders of each individual country cow-towing to Beijing to economic deals. It's a big mess and I think it's gonna sting even worse when Beijing ends up invading Taiwan and Europe finds itself in another Russia/Ukraine type situation.
4
@happymelon7129 Nobody has changed the definition in the US lol. You're just making things up because you have no argument. US is doing quite well, bad example you chose
4
Yeah, Winnie the Pooh
4
Lol okay
4
As an export based economy with weak consumption - China literally relies the most on globalization out of all major economies... irrevocable economic collapse would exactly be what happens to China. The opposite of what you say is true... hence why others are for decoupling and only China is screaming not to de-couple
4
Well, he's right
4
Hey, Taiwan it's own country. I think you have a typo there
4
All by design. I'll tell you one thing from personal experience - the Chinese Tiktok (Douyin) does not do that... infact, the opposite
4
@PewterThos In addition to this, the fact that about 70% of Chinese household wealth is in housing and the prices are now falling means peoples net worth are going to decrease by a lot. This has a lot of negative implications for consumption and the economy as a whole.
4
@fooksengloke3625 Lol thats funny because literally every Chinese I know that is financially able to move out of China - has. I can think of 5 people/families that I personally know, off the top of my head.
4
If you take it out of context like that, its chilling. However the Ukrainians want to defend their own country and want the means to do so. The US and others are providing them with that
3
@civicblade1 Stop it.... CGTN is from the State, and will never host or show people actually having a legitimate round table discussion with views that they do not control and could be critical of them.
3
@DEonaraR Very funny. That is a completely different problem that is much harder to fix, politically. Difference is? In America people can admit their country's problems
3
Fortifier1021 I'd guess its much more on the otherside....especially with 30 million more men than women.
3
Fortifier1021 Those are two separate things. thats why I put the "+".
3
China has looted and plundered its own people for years. Now they're doing the same to African countries and other in the SE sea. China would be nowhere without the west welcoming it into the global system. Maybe it should remember that
3
Those companies are American companies that are beholden to US law. Why would they ban them first? Get outta here
3
Hmm sounds like you've been listening to Peter Zeihan, which I do as well and largely agree with , however I think the timing is not correct on the demographic decline. The demographic decline is likely to really start being a drag in the next decade, however China still faces many near term problems - massively high debt/GDP ratio and lack of growth drivers since real estate growth of the past is likely gone and infrastructure investment doesn't bare the fruit it once did. With all of that said - time is not on China's side, and things are likely to get worse if they don't invade Taiwan by the early 2030's at the latest. More likely it'll be a selling point for XI's 4th term in 2027
3
Taiwan does not want war with China, and cannot create it. The balance of power is not equal, and only one can hurt the other. It's up to China to pull the trigger, or not
3
Lol the brick is a joke. Are you kidding
3
The fact that this comment is so badly worded and hard to understand - yet has so many likes, leads me to believe it's a bot account....which there has been a massive surge of on DW lately. Taiwan is a country, knock it off. CCP never controlled it, waited way too long to the point TW has their own government, passports, currencies, diplomatic ties, laws, etc etc. They even have to wait in the foreigner line when they come into China...so even China knows this.
2
There is a reason they are on board with it, and its not the whole "puppet master" conspiracy
2
@wanglei5500 The problem with your term "Chinese sea areas" is that China illegally claims the entire South China Sea as their territory. This is against an international court that said China had no right to the territory. Those waters are international and the waters specifically close to the Philippines is theirs. The CCP does not respect others or international law.. the CCP only cares about its own national interest.
2
What is she supposed to lie because she's in China? She spoke her truth and isn't afraid of China or going to sugar coat anything just because of where she stands
