@hankjones3527 Who approached who first is absolutely relevant for establishing intent. You have no idea why France made the offer, so you made up a rationale.

@hankjones3527 I guess your fiction is more attractive to you than reality. We know they wanted to do it. That much is beyond question. The historical record is definitive about who made the proposal and floated the idea. The French traded what amounted to a claim to a bunch of undeveloped, unsettled land for a huge infusion of cash. Can you see past your own bias and ignorance to imagine why they would view that as a positive outcome?

@hankjones3527 Hardly, your inability to engage intelligently in discussion on this topic shows that I'm wasting my time on an ignorant person. Bonaparte had no interest in the Americas after the Haitian rebellion, and France didn't have the resources to spend on making Louisiana a profitable colony. His decision to sell Louisiana to the US was about getting a bunch of money that he used to fund his military campaigns. That's simply the historical record. Your fantasy land doesn't factor in anywhere. Cry about it.

@hankjones3527 The French were literally one of if not the most powerful empire in the world at the time. Calling them weak and poor is just ridiculous stupidity. Which is very consistent with your other comments.

@Leo-ip9bv Yes, the intention of the sides of an agreement matters quite a lot.

@hankjones3527 The French approached US diplomats in Paris and made the initial offer of sale. We can definitely say that they wanted to sell. Assigning intentions, such as assuming they thought they would lose land in a future conflict, is ahistorical and biased. You're attempting to make events fit your model, which is the opposite of what historians and social scientists should do.

@hankjones3527 You're far too stupid to understand history.

@hankjones3527 I'm sure you can't understand it any other way. Your stupidity isn't worth my time.
