There was no Internet in those days. I worked c. 1991 in Spanish telecom and only corporate communications existed such as banks'. The very first Internet appeared in those days but it was outlandishly expensive and not too interesting yet, so it did not catch up until a decade later.

@joythought - Maybe. But the USSR was over by then. In any case it was a rather elitist endeavor only for those with access via university or other job (I did access the earliest Internet in those days... but only at work and was of limited interest at best).
