What does the length of the border have to do with it? They will have a long border in any cause anyway, no matter what. If there is a cease fire, it's not because the border would be of a certain length but because both sides figure it's better to stop fighting.

@AfterTheIce-q4j The peacekeepers aren't going to be able to stop anything in any case. They are a more of symbolic gesture like we see now in Lebanon. Soon as something actually happens, they aren't able to do anything to stop it really.

@kameraadbonesoep "Europe delivers most assistance," If I look at the statistics up to October last year, American military aid was about the same or even more than all EU countries + UK together. It is hard to replace that and it doesn't matter how much other assistance is provided as building schools isn't going to stop ru troops from advancing. So unless EU more than doubles its military aid, it likely "will be over" without US because even the current level of aid with Americans included isn't enough to stop ru. If you get EU countries directly involved in the fighting, then it might be a different ball game but so far countries have obviously been reluctant to do this. This not being America is irrelevant when Americans are the ones providing most arms.

@kameraadbonesoep Well I believe the EU manufacturing investments when I see some results. It's an obvious fact that ru troops currently advance on a regular basis, slow but still advancing. It's not hard to extrapolate form that what the end result is if things stay the same or get worse in the military aid department.

@kameraadbonesoep Yes so how is that investment going to save Ukraine if it kicks in 2030? "Finally, you can't ever extrapolate the proceedings of a war from any one status quo." Of course I can, just like it was obvious how Germany would end up based on situation of February 1945 I can make assessments on what the end result of this war will be if US pulls out. You are not even accounting for the chance that other countries like cn might also start providing aid to their side on a larger scale, so if you wish to assume EU is suddenly going to 3x their aid, why don't you assume NK and CN are going to do the same if they see ru losing?

The problem with immigration in EU isn't immigration itself, we had for example Vietnamese people come over decades ago that assimilated just like the immigrants that came to America did. The problem are immigrants with specific views that do not even want to assimilate, many don't even learn the language and definitely aren't paying taxes and being a net contributor to state budgets. Something like a year ago saw one video from Sweden where they interviewed an immigrant woman that had been in Sweden for 30 years. She didn't speak Swedish and was not working. She might be an extreme case, but the problem is real. The rise in crime is also real, it's easy to see just by looking at statistics. I have never been any far right voter, but I believe all parties pretty much need to come up with different migration policy or in the long term they will never regain power in most of Europe. For example in Denmark, now also the social democrats are now backing the fairly hard line on immigration, I believe that is what social democrats eventually have to do in other EU countries as well if they wish to have chance of success in future elections. I also don't mind giving temporary asylum to many people in times of actual danger, but I'm against citizenship even after 10 years or so for the refugees. They should have equal rights as citizens while living in the country, but with the caveat that they and all of their descandants need to return when their home country like Syria is safe again. They could have some right to request citizenship after 10 years perhaps, but it should not be automatic but for example given to those that have demonstratebly integrated, have learned the language, held a job and committed 0 crimes.

Playing time could be an option because there is non zero chance that Putin's successor isn't as nuts as he is. But if there is a frozen conflict like between the Koreas, we would need to a) Never agree to Crimea or any other captured territory being officially part of ru b) Keep the sanctions on as long as all the territory is returned. Ru might collapse at some point like CCCP did, that would be a good opportunity to take back territory also. I think sooner or later Ukraine will get its lands back if we play our cards right. Does it happen soon or after decades like with the Baltics is an open question and only Ukraine can really decide when to actively fight for it is not worth it currently anymore.
