@dpelpal US has obviously not said they would not use one under any circumstances, or do you think US would let Russia nuke them without responding in kind? 😂 If Russia only used nukes against Ukraine, US would likely not use nukes, because they would not need them, but they would likely get directly involved using conventional weapons.

@JD-wf2hu I also thought about that, not perhaps very seriously but Imagine if all NATO countries on the border with Russia amassed hundreds of thousands of troops and just camped there for months. Russia would either need to take it seriously and transfer it's own troops there also or if it didn't do that, it could never again claim NATO is a security threat to it, if it wouldn't even react when NATO was posing like it was going to attack. So we would be helping Ukraine just by camping our troops on our borders.

@Simon-ik1kb It's not obvious at all and it's mere speculation asserted as fact. Turkey also understands the situation and benefits from NATO. The only country I think likely might bail is Hungary but not Turkey and not having Hungary helping isn't a big problem.

That is the thing many people say, but I would say they are pretty effective when actually used. The problem is what happens after it, when even your allies start thinking you have gone nuts.

If Russia wanted to attack only a single NATO country to see if article 5 holds, why would it chose one as prepared to defend itself as Finland? That would seem totally nonsensical to me, Russia would have massive casulties in Lapland even if nobody helped Finland. If I was Putin, obvious choice would be the Suwalki gap for example, not anything to do with Finland that has their own air force, large artillery etc.

@evgeniya7853 Japanese had already decided to write off Manchuria, it wasn't the Soviet attack that made Hirohito decide to surrender. He made that choice only 25h after the Soviet attack when he didn't even know the extent of it. "Americans can only fight against civilians" Rich coming from someone whose country has targeted civilians in Ukraine for over 2 years now.

Fact is US hasn't annexed any places for ages, while Russia is still invading and annexing foreign lands, stealing their toilets and targeting civilians. Syrians know this very well also.
