I bet many bridges could have taken that hit and it makes sense that in areas where bridges are weaker, large ships like this would not be allowed. 99% of bridges don't need to withstand that, only those ones that see ships as large as this come close on a regular basis.

If I ask polity Russia to give up 50% of it's territory, they will do it? 🤦🏼‍♂ Nobody cares what Russia asked, if other countries decide to join NATO it's none of Russia's business. Russia signed the Budapest agreement where it recognized Ukraine's 1991 borders, no other agreement with Russia means anything after they violated that and no other deals would have ever been needed if Russia would have abided by that initial agreement.

If ships as large as this only came later, the bridge protections could have been updated or ships too large could have been banned from entering until the bridge is strong enough to take a collision.

They can make a skyscraper stop an airliner so it should be trivial in comparisons to create a concrete structure at the base strong enough to deflect impact even from a larger ship but if someone shows the math that demonstrates the opposite, I'm willing to change my mind.

Obviously an point impact from an airliner going 500km/h is much harder to withstand than relatively steady forces from wind. And why would someone design a bridge to withstand an impact from the kind of ships that come near it on daily basis? You really need to ask that? I hope you don't design critical structures anywhere.
