All these laws that protect any religion should be abolished. You should be able to burn any book you own, regardless of contents if it's not something like a fire hazard or something like that. Religion is basically just an idea, and all dumb (and even smart ones) should be open to critique. Labeling a dumb idea a "religion" should not change anything or should someones ideas be protected if they started a religion that considers the Austrian painter their deity?

@Titus9508 Cause and effect, without the people writing that fantasy book there would be no response.

I was wondering why Slovakians were so different compared to Czechs that they would vote someone like Fico to power and what they have in common with Hungary. I remember reading that Slovakians were more religious than their Czech counterparts so I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with that. Perhaps they believe Russia is somehow upholding some traditional values and have bought the idea that they need to avoid the "western woke virus".

It's the contents of it that is repulsive and all the reactions of people that get upset about it. Maybe if 1000 people did it weekly, certain groups of people would eventually learn it's not their business what other people do with books they own and stopped getting so upset about nothing.

@davidsmith5523 "Our values. Do those values include tolerance, acceptsnce of others beliefs. Respect for others religious beliefs?" For me it doesn't, I thought I made pretty clear it's dumb to respect a dumb or barbaric ideas just because they are called religions. If your religion is barbaric, it should be treated the same as rules of some criminal organization. You can privately believe what you like, but we as a society don't need to provide premises for such ideas that go against our fundamental values like democracy.

Is Sachs whining about NATO expansion? This is what Gorbachev self says about it: 'M.G.: The topic of “NATO expansion” was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. I say this with full responsibility. Not a singe Eastern European country raised the issue, not even after the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist in 1991. Western leaders didn’t bring it up, either. Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces from the alliance would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement, mentioned in your question, was made in that context. Kohl and [German Vice Chancellor Hans-Dietrich] Genscher talked about it.'

It's not going to be very popular in Syria if they let Russians stay there in any capacity. I would guess they will let as many Russians leave voluntarily as possible before telling the rest to leave. It's easier to kick out some remaining 300 than some 3000.

@menninkainen8830 Well it is kind of the default to keep stuff private in CIA and only reveal things when there is a reason.

@davidsmith5523 "But you tried to override individuality by saying should" What are you talking about? 🤦♂ The word should in the context clearly implies what I advocate for. If enough people agree with me at some point, the laws will get changed. There was nothing in anything I said that would imply I'm trying to go against public opinion and disregard other opinions. I'm simply advocating for my position obviously so stop the mental gymnastics. And I don't value freedom of religion, I only value freedom of expression in general so that no religious expression or ideas are treated any differently that something non religious. If a religious group and teachings are totally opposite to our western values and democracy, I have 0 problem for example if that group would be treated like an organized crime family or motorcycle gang without permission to for example have official premises to their meetings.

@davidsmith5523 Many countries don't have such laws, you believe UK is different place where adult people need more hand holding in every situation? Why don't you also have a law that says you need to wear a bicycle helmet every time you step outside the house because it would make it safer for you? Why would it make me ignorant if I advocate that such legacy laws would be abolished? I never claimed there would not be repercussions from it, I'm simply willing to accept them.
2
@badfairy9554 Yes, I understand and obviously made that point that you can ban it on other grounds like fire hazard etc. but wherever any other book can be burned, all books should be allowed to be burned at will. The state should not legally respect any religious text or symbols as anything special.

Even Putin doesn't know what territory is Russia and what isn't: Crimea. Perhaps when the Russians first learn their own geography you should expect us to know every village located at your mafia run gas station.

Aren't all the radioactive isotopes that are still left too heavy to evaporate and go anywhere with the wind?

@jethrotull2142 The book burner was practising freedom of expression. Anyone that is not a citizen and has a problem with that, should get the current American deportation treatment as they obviously are not equipped to integrate to western society.

If citizens step out of line, the police can deal with them. If non citizen immigrants delivering food get out of line, they should obviously be deported as they aren't a good fit for any country with western values.

@Joeblogs999 Exactly and I believe that might be the point of some of these book burners: if it comes common enough, the other side has no other option than to eventually become desensitised to it and learn to not get so upset about what other people do to inanimate objects that they own.

@davidsmith5523 "OK you seem confused. You think a thing is dumb. They don't" I'm not confused at all. It doesn't matter if they think it isn't dumb, it doesn't deserve any special privileges just because they call it a religion. Their fantasy book should be treated the same as Lord of The Rings. And their groups should be treated like any other organized crime group if one of their core tenants is opposing things like democracy and advocating for things like throwing minorities of the roof, having child marriages etc.

@davidsmith5523 I'm not confused at all and it's obviously you that is having a hard time grasping things, not that surprising though seeing what you you are white knighting here for. It doesn't matter if they think it isn't dumb, whatever it is to them, it doesn't deserve any special privileges just because they decided to call it a religion. The fantasy book should be treated the same as Lord of The Rings. And their groups should be treated like any other organized crime groups if one of their core tenants is opposing things like democracy and advocating for things like throwing certain types of people of the roof, child marriages etc.

@davidsmith5523 And if their groups oppose things like democracy and advocate for things like child marriages, deletion of certain minorities etc. then they should be treated like other organized crime groups already are.

@DivXDemonRik CIA and FBI aren't Trump fans so I don't think they would lie for him. CIA might lie if it benefitted them for some other reason like destabilising cn, but I don't think they are lying in this case.

It seems the ATC was understaffed and 1 person was handling the work that is normally done by 2 (helicopters and airplanes are done by a different person). Don't know if that had something to do with the resignation offers Trump's government had sent 1 week before, but if it had, that would explain why he immediately tries to shift blame. But I bet ultimately understaffing and limited field of view from night vision will be the cause of the accident.
