I don’t know whether to feel bad for this guy or not. Tell me how you voted, and I’ll tell you how I feel. That’s where I’m at with these stories.

Detroit in many ways was self made too. They being to levy heavy taxes. They further put in zoning laws that segmented the areas leading to breakdown of community. Competition from Japan is the story liberals like to tell. If you have the time, look up some documentary’s on it. It’s interesting.

@thehippie3610 then what policies does he support? Who did he vote for when he was there? Who did he publicly support in his social circles? You can’t fix a problem until you admit there is one. I’m leaning towards he voted blue, because he didn’t bring up the real issues. But, I’ll refrain since I don’t know for sure. But I’ll also refrain from caring until I do know.

@jamesdellaneve9005 the economics were the microcosm to the attitude. They felt they didn’t need to evolve. That was the problem. They felt that they didn’t need to evolve because they felt they were owed those jobs. They felt they were owed those jobs from the way the city was run in part.

@jamesdellaneve9005 the cities attitude has a huge part. How the regulated the industry, hurt the ability of them to have any option of staying there. Further, new entrants have some advantages. They also have many disadvantages. You’re correct that large companies are hard to change. They also have more capital, for everything, including getting top talent. They also have established brands. No doubt that Japan had an effect. But the people thinking they were owed those jobs, and the city thinking they were owed those companies caused a laziness. It also caused them to mistreat the companies in ways that made it easy for them to want to pick up and leave.

@jamesdellaneve9005 they did drive them away in several ways. They created a tax and regulatory environment that they fed on until they killed it. Of course Japan had an effect. No one doubts that. But the city did have a sense of entitlement that they were owed these companies. I am aware about what you’re talking about, but it doesn’t seem you know the full story. I’m not disagreeing with you, on the effect of Japan. My push back is that a large part of Detroit’s problems we’re self made. It’s of different kind then portlands, but self made in large part. Check it out.

@jamesdellaneve9005 again, please look at the other factors. How the city zoned was big one. That tied in with the allowance of crime.
