the then uk ‘hEaLtH sEcREtaRy’ Matty Handcock announced a contract for an artificial intelligence tool needed to process “the expected high volume of COVID-19 vaccine adverse drug reactions”, in November of 2020. the MHRA subsequently awarded the £1.5 million tender to one ‘GenPact UK’. The contract bypassed the usual “call for competition” tender process as per regulations, due, according to the MHRA, to “reasons of extreme urgency”, claiming that they were unable to “retrofit the MHRA’s legacy systems to handle the volume of ADRs that will be generated by a Covid-19 vaccine.” & then no one ever heard anything about it ever again.
