I will disagree with you about us having a functional democracy. We have a thoroughly dysfunctional democracy. It's held together with duct tape and chewing gum. In a way, we owe Donald Trump a debt of gratitude for showing us just how broken and dysfunctional it really is. He should be punished severely, jail time at worst. Hanging would be fitting for a man who committed treason and insurrection, and those gallows would need to be very wide to accommodate all his conspirators in congress.
