Representative democracy is a system where people vote for who they want to represent their interests in government. It's dependent on candidates earning the trust and respect of their electorate. Why do you think Republicans are trying to rig the system? They aren't able to win the battle of ideas anymore. They used to be competitive, not great, but competitive. They've become intellectually lazy and can no longer win on merit of even the thinnest form.
