It seems to me that there is one danger of an overzealous gag order, and that is Trump using it as another delay tactic. Every appeal slows down the process, delays when the trials start and subsequently when they end. He's attempting to push these trials until after the election supposing he can manage to reclaim the presidency and then stop all his trials altogether then pardon himself so he can't be charged, possibly attempting to change the system so he can never be charged even after leaving the office.
