  1. The reason the specifically mentioned a well regulated militia in the second amendment is because the founding fathers did NOT want a standing army! It was partially what Texas Paul said and partially to repel a foreign invasion in a time when wooden sailing ships dropped soldiers on land to invade. And everyone had singe shot muskets. A well drilled minuteman could fire two whole shots a minute. Our founding fathers could see quite far, but they couldn't foresee weapons of war capable of being wielded by one man able to kill dozens of men in that same time. That's why the constitution was meant to be a living document at best and replaced often at worst, to be able to change with the times.
