  1. I know for a fact that I had slave owners in my ancestry. Even so, I don't identify with them. I don't think what they did was good or right. The point of understanding history is to not make the same mistakes. If you're a Republican or a conservative and you think teaching genuine history is going to make children feel bad about the past... GOOD! They SHOULD feel bad about the past, THAT'S THE POINT! You feel bad about it so you don't think you can do it again today. Mythology might make you feel good, but it will never make children capable of understanding the world they are in and improve it. You will condemn them to needless suffering and failure. STOP IT!
