  1. True conservatism is about holding onto the past and tradition. A functioning conservative movement wants to keep progress from charging forward without thought or consideration. I haven't seen a true conservative in my life, at least not one that claims to be a conservative. All the ones I see want to halt progress altogether, thinking they can stop the march of progress, and to drag us back to a time when they were most comfortable. I might be able to criticize my side equally, but my side isn't in danger of destroying everything the way the extreme right is.
