Why does it seem so hard for people to understand WHY education is being underfunded?  It's a systemic attack on knowledge.  The less informed a population is, the easier it is to control.  Since it's being done in favor of large business, for the most part (wars being fought to pad the pockets of arms manufacturers and the like), the uneducated because a plentiful source of cheap labor.  It's an end run around slavery, which large corporations would LOVE to see returned.  I'm just wondering how long it'll take us as a people to have a French style revolution, where we drag our Aristocracy out into the streets and kill them off.  It'd be a profound irony that the people suppressing education will be destroyed because they refused to learn the lessons of the past.
