  1. "Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps." Try that sometime. You fucking can't, physics is a thing. In a true meritocracy, yes, rich people would be rich because of hard work and dedication. People who put in more work and get more and\or better results would be paid more. Also, there wouldn't be starving and homeless poor, because there is no merit in allowing people to be like that. Most importantly, we never have and likely never will live in a meritocracy. So, we should at least mitigate the worst parts of our system by taking as a service to society the excesses from the rich and elevate the poor. Not to a communistic level, just enough to keep our system from collapsing or devolving into a French Revolution, which absolutely IS coming.
