  1. Actually, this universe has a definite end. They call it the heat death, when all matter ends up in a collection of supermassive black holes forever drifting apart. If there was enough matter to overcome the expansion effect to recoalesce, a big crunch, then it would reach a criticality and re-expand in a continuous loop. We honestly don't know how this universe came into being, what was "before" the big bang as there was no time before. Time didn't start until after the expansion.
