Debate is fine, but it's a terrible way to really understand a candidate and his\her policy ideas. Couple that with the disastrous primary system for picking a candidate to run... voting for someone to vote for later, and you've got a recipe for bad representation. Why not a primary to determine who runs in the primary? And then a primary to determines who runs there. It's a bad system that breeds contempt, hurt feelings, and apathy among voters. Even if, by some miracle, everyone here's favorite candidate Bernie Sanders manages to make it to the election, he'll be so beat up and bloody, Trump won't have to fight hard at all to win.
