  1. I'm going to take the most charitable interpretation here. Ellen here is defending her friendship with Bush out of the understanding that people are upset about her, a liberal, being friends with Bush, a conservative. She's not taking into account war crimes either perceived or actual. She might be too close to it to see that other people see him as a war criminal.
