The unfortunate truth is that it's not ONLY his personal beliefs, it has been propagated throughout rightwing society for some time. I disagree with his beliefs, as would any scientifically literate person, but you have a ton of people with their personal beliefs being shared, that's the basis for law. @sergioortiz8219 Belief might be the basis for law, but if everyone believed the same thing, why would a law need to be crafted for said thing? Laws are to enforce a certain ruleset on the public, to punish people for straying outside a set of accepted behavior. The fact that this group wants to make a law enforcing their belief is because people, generally speaking, don't believe what these people believe. It's a minority opinion, but with enough people feeling righteous enough to force everyone else to obey their beliefs. Here's the thing. It's not really even HIS opinion. This man didn't sit down and weigh all the options, read scientific studies and religious treatise on the issue. He didn't craft this opinion himself. It was an opinion that was crafted by "think tanks" and other bullshit artists and disseminated as talking points in order to gain an undue advantage. It's someone else's opinion they have adopted. Anyone who gives you the "life begins at conception" argument isn't a person of any genuine intellect, they are useful idiots parroting someone else's nonsense.

@michaelmartinez3674 If life begins when sperm meets egg in what they call conception, then any woman who has had regular sex is a serial murderer as most fertilized eggs end up in sanitary pads or tampons.

@sergioortiz8219 They could start a little further along the process. Implantation is required for a fertilized egg to survive to birth. Even then, it doesn't always make it birth. Heartbeat? Again, doesn't always make it after that. There's a reason the standard is and always has been once the fetus is viable outside the womb, that's the cutoff. So, there, I answered it. Idiot.

So, basically, that man's position is, let them both die without intervention. The likelihood of a 12-year-old girl impregnated by rape of surviving birth is significantly lower than someone even two years older (which is still a child). Not only that, a baby conceived in incest, especially a father-daughter impregnation, is likely to create severe genetic and birth defects which will both lower the survivability of said child. Said child, assuming survival, will have lifelong complications and stigmas. Imagine being called incest baby your whole life. I, personally, given the choice would choose oblivion over life in that situation.

So, we have a high likelihood of both the rape victim and her incestuous baby dying due to complications both physical and genetic, but even assuming survival of both, you now have a child with no future and a broken mind and a child with likely severe genetic and physical deformity plus the added benefit of being stigmatized for being the product of incest. I'd choose oblivion over living like that.
