There are some people, I would struggle to say more than a tiny few, that have mental illnesses severe enough to cause them to cripple themselves or desire some form of crippling injury such as amputating a completely functioning arm. These people are equating that sort of mental illness to being transgender. Their argument is that if a man wants to mutilate (their word, not mine) their penis and have it reshaped into a vagina, they're mentally ill and need to be stopped. Trying to explain reality to people who are against it in favor of their religious ideology aren't going to understand your arguments.
