A code of ethics some 247 years after the nation was formed? Wow, I know justice is slow, but that's glacial. Plus, no enforcement. Never let any organization, no matter how large or small, police itself. It will always be completely lenient on itself.

@teardowndan5364 They're all supposed to be watching each other. Three coequal branches of government. If one goes too far, the other two are supposed to step it to curtail the overreach. Notice I keep using the word supposed. Even the best system can be corrupted. We are also to blame here. We keep putting the corrupt back into power. We're the final check and we've failed because we weren't watching the watchers.

I would argue that we need more justices. Thirty, forty, maybe more. Now, not all of them sit on every case. There would be a mechanism to randomly assign 5 justices to any case being heard so that they don't get to pick and choose which cases they want to put their thumbs on the scales of justice to decide. You'd never know if you're going to get a majority liberal or conservative draw for any one case, which would disabuse these strategic cases to overturn centuries of precedent for the sake of ideology. Plus, we could add other checks into the system like automatically removing any justice with a conflict of interest for the specific case making buying a justice potentially useless. Finally, we need the other two branches to actually perform their duty as a check and actively curtail this flagrant nonsense. The problem with any system, even the one I just suggested, is that it's run by people and subject to corruption and loopholes that can and will be abused.
