I'd say it's less a plan than a common mindset. Greed as a motivating factor is quite insidious. It's like a swarm of locusts, eating everything in its path, never satisfied, and leaving devastation in its wake. All our financial systems are built around greed instead of being built around stability, so it's no wonder everything is going to hell.
