  1. Joseph McCarthy held trials to out (mostly smear people as) communists. The current Republican party has forgone trials for assertions as though their word alone makes someone a communist. They're intellectually lazy and bankrupt, incapable of defending their own positions, and have to resort to trickery and lies in order to retain power.
