  1. Conspiracies happen every day. They're usually caught though. Maintaining a secret is inversely proportional to the number of people holding said secret. Two people can keep a secret virtually indefinitely. A million people keeping a secret will result in said secret becoming a well-known fact. Conspiracies are built on secrets, the very moment that secret is exposed collapses the conspiracy. If this, or really any, conspiracy theory were true, it'd need a LOT of people to keep it hidden.
