I agree we need to be doing a ton more research into transgender issues. Especially neurology. When it comes to people who are transgendered, I think when they are adults, they should be allowed to make their own decisions about confirmation surgery, but not children or adults making that decision for their children. Gender identity is hard wired into our brains, with cisgendered people having their biological sex matching their gender identity and transgendered people having the opposite. Unfortunately, there are people who don't understand or agree with this outlook. Look up David Reimer sometime, horrible tragedy, and yet the doctor that promoted his transitioning as part of his pet theory has had way too much influence in the field than he should ever have been allowed to.
