I think this encapsulates the problem with this "taxation is theft" mentality. “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

  2. One can draw a direct line from the Tea Party days of 2009 to today's MAGA movement. They never seem to understand the argument of our founding fathers wasn't simply, "no taxation," there was a second half of that statement. "No taxation without representation." Our founding fathers weren't perfect by any stretch, but they were at least adults and used adult thinking to come to their solutions to problems. If you're saying taxation is theft, you have the mentality of a 2-year-old. "NO! It's MINE!!!" To them, cooperation is the highest crime a person can commit.
