This is what I like to call, "cutting your nose off to spite your face." Too many people resent their chosen candidate not making it in a primary and then, in revenge, voting against the one who won the primary over their preferred candidate. It might not be a great number of people doing it, but it can be enough to upset an election. The days of landslide majorities are long gone, and every election for the foreseeable future are going to be polarized with narrow victories.
