This actually brings up an interesting political issue when it comes to elections. What would happen if a candidate, after receiving his or her party's nomination but before the election, were to die or become incapable of performing his\her duties as president? It'd be too late to hold a new primary, the running mate wasn't actually chosen to run by the people during the primary, and the whole thing could unravel the entire election.
