Do you know why we as a nation had a moratorium on the death penalty for so long? It was photos of people smiling and having a good time at an execution. It shocked people when they realized how craven and, quite frankly, evil they appeared. When they decided to bring it back, they hid it behind closed doors as though they were ashamed of it, hoping to keep such disgusting glee out of the public eye. If you're ashamed of it so much you need to hide it away, was it really a good idea to bring it back?

While I am certainly not in favor of executions, if I were to be executed, I'd rather it be by firing squad over hanging, electrocution, gas chamber, or lethal injection. Yes, it's more violent, but it's also far closer to instantaneous, and thus, more humane than being poisoned to death via gas or injection, hanged which can go wrong in many ways, and certainly electrocuted. Hell, guillotine is more humane, less than a second and it's over.

I do think it's ironic how many on our side are vehemently opposed to the death penalty but totally in favor of humane euthanasia for terminal patients. True, they're different circumstances. The death penalty isn't equally doled out and there is a major chance of executing someone not guilty of the crime they were convicted of whereas the terminal patient is suffering and wants the pain to end. Willing to end one person's suffering by inflicting death on them but willing to inflict life in prison to another to prolong theirs. Not against it, mind you, just pondering the intellectual conflict that creates.
