This videogame argument isn't just a distraction concerning gun violence, it's also a distraction of the predatory pay schemes and gambling mechanics videogame producers are putting into their games as of late. All the money they're making on people with gambling and\or shopping addictions spending hundreds of dollars in games that weren't even free to begin with, what the games industry refers to as whales, is hurting the industry. This "videogames causes violence" argument is causing people who have a legitimate beef with the industry to turn around and defend them from an erroneous attack, and they get to cover their ass for a while as this is taking up all the oxygen in the room.
