I hate debate as a means of trying to figure out who is right and who is wrong. A skilled debater can successfully defend a lie while a poor debater can fail to defend the truth. It also doesn't matter when it comes to the people. Since critical thinking is so poor in this nation, debate has devolved into who got the best zingers, who "owned" the other. Great in a rap battle, terrible for deciding who wields the levers of power.

@geak5994 It's true congress was set up as a debate structure, but that's sort of the bedrock of my displeasure. Debate is the worst way to decipher what is true, what is false, what works, and what doesn't. Too many opinions, too many confounding variables, too many ideologues. Even when our system works well, it's VERY flawed and FAR too slow to compensate for bad decisions made in good faith on faulty information. When it works poorly, it just steamrolls the truth and we end up with authoritarian nonsense taking over.
