  1. Debate is great sport, but lousy at deciding policy, even when it's done correctly. From a technical standpoint, two men can have a debate, one can argue the truth poorly and lose while the other can argue a massive falsehood well and win. The idea is about getting policy ideas out, not about smacking each other down. What they should do is have a moderator asking each candidate about their policy ideas, give them a solid three minutes to answer, then move on. Having someone asking gotcha questions and allowing a candidate to pontificate and badmouth the other candidates just tells me the people on stage are petty and not likely to cooperate when in office.
