I think it would depend on whether you are copying consciousness from point A to point B, or if you are transferring consciousness from point A to point B. On a computer, you can copy data and move it or simply move it. We don't understand consciousness yet, but supposing we eventually do and develop the capability to do the latter example, the original body, as it were, would now be devoid of consciousness. How we would know such a technological feat were achieved is tricky at best as one could claim that to be the case while actually achieving the former example.
