@iLoveLadyDiana While babies rarely get erections, they can. Erections are a matter of blood flow and physical processes not exclusively due to sexual arousal.

John Harvey Kellogg is the man most responsible for non-Jewish non-religious circumcision. Why did he popularize the procedure? He was vehemently anti-masturbation as he very wrongly believed it depleted vital humors. He believed circumcising boys would prevent them masturbating. He was a totally insane man who also believed eating meat would make you insane, that electricity could cure diseases, and that his feces literally did not stink to the point he'd bring them out and show you. Any modern medical science in favor or prophylactic circumcision is due to momentum and not sound medical study.

David Reimer comes springing to mind. His was botched so bad their family doctor told them to give him a sex change, believing gender was entirely a social construct and totally ruined that man's life.

@Latte-girly90 Momentum is a thing. The prevailing reason for babies to get circumcised is so their penis looks like their dad's. The dad was the same, grandfather the same, but the great grandfather was circumcised because a quack doctor named John Harvey Kellogg, as in the cereal company, advocated circumcising boys to prevent them masturbating as it depleted the vital humors.

@wharfrat74 A lot of conservatives try to use this case as a means of attacking the trans community, suggesting that it proves that we are the gender we're assigned at birth, I take it a different way, that you can't force someone to be a gender they aren't. If you're trans, you can't be forced to be cis. If you're cis, you can't be forced to be trans. The sword cuts both ways. Either way, circumcision is never totally safe or lacking in potential complications.

I'd wager a lot of the medical science in this case is due to momentum, starting with John Harvey Kellogg's advocation for the procedure to prevent boys masturbating believing it depletes the vital humors. A new modern study using modern methods needs to be performed and hopefully stop this idiot practice.
