  1. When it comes to circumcision, I don't know how much I trust medical science here. Not that doing science is wrong or bad, but I wonder how much of it is standard double-blind research and how much of it is defending an old practice started for dubious reasons. Momentum can keep bad practices going a LONG time. The so-called benefits are to reduce cancer or improve hygiene. I mean, hygiene is important, but it's a bit like cutting off your toes to keep from having wash between them. Plus, if you're going to get cancer in an inch of flesh, get rid of it then, not preemptively. People used to get their appendix removed prophylactically, but that practice ended and for good reasons.

  2. I can't speak for why they do so in the Philippines, but here in the U.S., John Harvey Kellogg was the major reason for the practice today. A man who was obsessed with masturbation because it drains vital fluids and insisted circumcision would prevent boys from masturbating. Failing that, he suggested sewing silver threads into the glans to cause pain during erection. The man also thought eating meat made you savage and that his shit LITERALLY didn't stink, and he would bring out his stools to show people! Momentum is why they keep doing this barbaric practice and it should end.
