  1. Pure socialism has never really worked, but partial socialism does quite well when it's properly utilized. You can't say that in this country without a stampede of pushback, some from the left, and a ton from the right. It's why Democratic Socialism was coined. It was injecting nuance into the conversation, and more narrowly defining terms. So, one defense of Bernie calling himself a democratic socialist could be viewed as an attempt to destigmatize the term or general socialism, which he has been for his entire political career, at least considering his party affiliation.
