What would an apology accomplish? 1) The people responsible for slavery as well as the people responsible for ending it are all dead, long since. 2) It would accomplish nothing, it happened, it's over, it's done with. If some people's egos are so fragile they cannot function today because 150 years ago slavery ended and no one apologized for it yet, those people aren't going to function after an apology. 3) Living in the past prevents us from moving forward. Too many people keep wanting to rehash a dead issue because then they get to sound like they are fighting a bold and necessary cause when, in fact, they're constantly picking a scab that should have healed and scarred over long since.
