  1. No country has ever needed nuclear armament. We used them twice in war, which was something of a necessary evil at the time, paradoxically saving more lives than it ended by driving the Japanese to the negotiation table. That being said, it was still evil and was probably the biggest catalyst in the Cold War. We almost precipitated it into a hot war over putting nuclear arms on the border in Poland which led directly to the Cuban Missile Crisis. If we as a species aren't smart enough to figure out that this level of mass destruction is something we should never do, then we probably deserve the nuclear holocaust we're driving toward.
